DECOS – Supporting the Vietnamese Government and Businesses in Promoting Green Growth

On the morning of March 19, 2023, the annual Vietnam Business Forum was held under the theme “Business community in partnership with the Government of Vietnam in fostering green growth”. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a speech to lead the forum.

Economic recovery and development toward green and sustainable growth is now a top priority and a goal that all countries are striving for. For Vietnam, green growth is not only an inevitable choice, but also an opportunity to catch up with global development trends and become a pioneer in the region.

Under such circumstances, the Vietnam Business Forum was held on the morning of March 19 under the theme ” Business community in partnership with the Government of Vietnam in fostering green growth”.

Here, representatives of organizations and departments made serious and objective comments and contributions toward a common goal:

  • Proposal for further participation of in carbon and emissions markets.
  • Vietnam’s ambitious development goals (to become a high-income developed country by 2045 and to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050) bring new opportunities and space for development to domestic and foreign companies and foreign investors.
  • Increase corporate participation in the development and completion of legislation and in the enforcement of environmental laws.
  • Develop and complete policies and laws on green growth and encourage businesses to invest in high-tech and clean technology.
  • Increase access to capital for businesses to go green.
  • Continue to improve green business environment to enhance national competitiveness, focusing on reducing administrative procedures, improving the business environment, and lowering business costs.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh – chaired, attended and commented on the meeting: 

  • Green growth is the trend of the times and a global issue.
  • “Economic development today is important, but we have to think about the future of the younger generations. Development brings income to people, but it must guarantee their health.”
  • Vietnam is focusing on restructuring its economy and innovating growth models based on science and technology and digital transformation to exploit and use energy and resources economically and efficiently. 
  • Avoid “expand first, clean up later” situations; do not pursue unsustainable growth at the expense of social justice and people’s living conditions.
  • Encourage the participation of every individual in society, especially businesses and citizens, and further promote projects in the form of public-private partnerships (PPP) in green growth.
